A good analogy is a kitchen sink that is overflowing, what's the first thing you would do, turn off the tap or mop the floor? The Stomp Awards is not about mopping the floor, it's about turning off the tap.
A circular economy (often referred to simply as "circularity") is an economic system aimed at eliminating waste and the continual use of resources. ... The circular economy aims to keep products, equipment and infrastructure in use for longer, thus improving the productivity of these resources.
If you’re entering the STOMP Awards, keep this in mind, it’s all about finding alternatives and a better way of doing things.
Another important aspect of the contest is the video upload section, it’s seldom the idea that inspires, it’s the person, the vision and enthusiasm behind the idea that makes it really work. We want to hear from you, your video gives our judges (and the public) a chance to get to know you and where you can motivate your entry. Show us some pictures, show us your idea in action, tell us why your idea rocks! Get a friend, pull out your smartphone and tell us exactly why you think your idea will help us create a better planet.
Members of our judging panel come from many different fields: some are engineers and will have a bigger interest in your technology innovation, some are marine scientists and will be more focused on the impact your idea makes, others are ocean-lovers just like us. Here are some ideas from a few of our judges on what they will be looking for in competitive entries:
Members of our judging panel come from many different fields: some are engineers and will have a bigger interest in your technology innovation, some are marine scientists and will be more focused on the impact your idea makes, others are ocean-lovers just like us. Here are some ideas from a few of our judges on what they will be looking for in competitive entries: When judging entries I will particularly interested in those that have made the best interpretation or application of sustainability in their entry. For me sustainability is a concept and may be demonstrated through the materials used, the message being spread or how people interact with the entry. ~ David Barnes, Head of the Science Innovation Network, United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Someone who can take criticism in order to do much better. A positive attitude. Creativity. Out of the box ideas driven by passion and inspire others, I want to see contestants who are not afraid of a challenge, who lead and take pride in their ideas. ~ Shamier Magmoet, Vice Chair, Sea The Bigger Picture
I'll be looking for original concepts that show innovativeness and are creatively excellent. Important for me will be concepts that are clear, well defined and easy to understand, I’ll also be looking closely at how effective the invention is and the likelihood that it can be successfully implemented ~ Jerome Andrews, CSIR
So there you have it. Think creatively. Think “impact”. Think practically and remember the “circular economy”. Be sure to include a video and wax lyrical about your entry! Your own motivation and enthusiasm can be the deal-clincher. We want to get to know the people behind the ideas! Good Luck
