Clare Swithenbank-Bowman - Litter4Tokens
We have been operational since 2015 and I launched this campaign because of the severe pollution and poverty in our townships and rural areas. We are not giving hand outs but instilling pride by giving a token per bag of litter (recycling) collected. The commuters then redeem it for dry food goods or clothes.
Each token shop costs R8000 and over 1600 bags are bright in each month per area. We only get R1.15 per bag of recycling rebate so we rely on partnerships and donations to close the gap and keep our token shops full across the country. We are not only empowering the nation, instilling pride but educating and keeping the litter out our rivers and oceans. Creating a circular economy for retailers!
